Lets Rock Elmo! Elmo Gets Jiggy With It!

Lets Rock Elmo is back and he is bringing the band with him! One can almost hear the strains of AC/DC wafting through the background..”for those about to rock we salute you!”. No more tickling, laughing and vibrating for this Elmo. He’s decked out in a black rocker t-shirt with a lightning bolt emblem and he is ready to get jiggy with it. And the hopes of Hasbro is that you and your children are ready to get jiggy with it also.

There is no doubt, at least in this authors opinion, that Lets Rock Elmo will be one of the hottest selling toys when the holiday season comes around in 2011. Maybe you remember the buying frenzy when Tickle Me Elmo was introduced a few years back. People literally would have traded their Mother if they could have gotten their hands on one. Auction sites saw the toy selling for up to double and triple what the suggested retail was because Elmo was flying off the shelves at such a pace, stores could not meet the demand. And from all early indicators, this rocking Elmo might put that scenario to shame.

So why is this cool Elmo causing such a stir? Well, according to Jerry Perez who is general manager of Hasbro’s Playschool division, “Lets Rock Elmo is the the most interactive Elmo ever”. And after Elmo received rave reviews from the recent Toy Fair in New York City, one would certainly have to agree with Mr. Perez.

Elmo will be packaged with his very own tambourine, a set of conga like drums and his very own microphone. And what is so very cool is that Elmo will know what instrument that he is given! Can you say “very cool indeed?!” But Hasbro has even taken this interactive concept a step further.

They will also be releasing a line of interactive musical instruments that includes a Lets Rock Elmo guitar, a Lets Rock Grover microphone and a Lets Rock Cookie Monster keyboard so that your children can play and sing along also. Oh one more thing, Elmo will know what instrument your child has also. Isn’t technology wonderful?

Needless to say, Hasbro has taken a page directly out of the hugely popular video game Rock Band with these instruments and it borders on sheer marketing genius. Think about it for a second, a play date with Elmo and your child’s friends are bringing in gear! Just imagine a house full of toddlers in dark glasses and black Lets Rock Elmo t-shirts bickering over who gets the Elmo guitar next. Absolutely priceless!

Now if you are an Elmo collector, and yes, plenty of you adults who might be reading this are, this cool Elmo is going to be a must have acquisition. This edition of Elmo signals a new age of Sesame Street toys that will only get better as Hasbro continues to push the barrier with animatronics and technology.

What is going to be interesting is to see how Hasbro will keep Lets Rock Elmo in the public spotlight till he is released sometime in the fall of 2011. Keep your eyes peeled and your running shoes ready because Let’s Rock Elmo will soon be In Da House and ready to rock!
