Baby Comforters (Comfort Blankets)
Baby comforters (commonly referred to as Comfort Blankets) are an ideal alternative to your babies’ favourite toy or dummy. To a baby, touch is everything which is why they naturally love the tactile qualities that the comfort blanket offers. Without the ability to interact with the world through words and actions in the same way that adults do, babies use touch and smell as a way to comfort and reassure them selves.
So why do babies love blankets so much?
Of course, the thing babies most like to touch is their parents so on the absence of a comforting pair of arms and that familiar scent of mum and dad; a soft blanket is often the next best thing.
A parent will quite often see their baby or toddler cuddling up to a blanket, or insisting that their blanket comes along on trips and outings. In your child’s eyes, the comfort blanket has come to represent everything that’s good, positive and comforting. Its presence helps lull them to sleep, or provides comfort and relaxation when they’re feeling insecure which is why it is such an important and personal element in their life.
So what is a baby comforter?
Well it can be as simple as a favourite piece of bedding (for example a cellular blanket or a soft flannelette sheet) or even a favourite soft toy. It is now possible to buy a multitude of different comfort blankets which all have the same objective – to provide a soothing comforting tactile experience.
These days, comfort blankets come in a variety of shapes and colours. Quite often parents will find themselves looking for a blanket that also has a large manufacturers label – this can be sometimes be as inportant as the actual blanket.
There are essentialy 3 types of comfort blanket:
The traditional cellular or fleece blankets sometimes incorporate a matching satin bound edging ribbon. This silky feeling fabric makes them appealing to babies and toddlers alike often becoming a favourite comfort blanket, which has to accompany them everywhere.
The taglet comfort blanket which features a number of fabric tags on a textured blanet which offer a multitude of sensory serfuces - The soft micro fleece and smooth satin tags of the Baby Sense pink taglet comfort blanket, provides just the right soothing touch experience for your baby. When falling asleep the baby will rub the Taglet between the fingers or on the face.
