The Pregnancy Test

The Pregnancy Test

$3.95

Ordinarily, I’m a fan of pink–lovely color, does smashing things for the complexion. But not when it’s the bright, glaring stripe staring back at me on the pregnancy test. Then, pink is the color of major oops, of morning sickness, of boyfriends who seemed decent but now are part of some Jerk Witness Protection Program. Still, I’ve got a few things going for me–bitter humor, a divine right to eat till I’m the size of Marlon Brando, and good friends who’ve managed to get me a job interview with one Damien Sharpton: in need of a personal assistant, and some say, a good, swift kick in the arse. If you want to make a lasting impression, by all means, toss your cookies in your future boss’s wastebasket, which is located directly between his excruciatingly sexy legs. Apparently, Mr. Gorgeous-But-Unbearably-Anti-Social must like personal assistants who violate his trash can, because I got the job. And if I can avoid him via text messaging for the next seven months of health insurance, everything will be just fine. Except that he’s just asked–no, insisted–that I go with him on a business trip to the Caribbean. Gulp, Ordinarily, this would be cause for celebration. Ordinarily, I’d shave my legs, pack my bikini, revel in day-glo drinks and my seething lust for Mr. Swarthy-And-Secretive. But there’s nothing ordinary about this situation…which means it could be absolutely extraordinary.

Yeast Infection in Pregnancy

Yeast infection in pregnancy is very much expected and it has been this way since we came into being. Yeast has existed in us ever since we discovered it. Yeast is a fungus that is single celled and therefore can only been seen under a microscope. The scientific name for yeast is candida albicans or monilia. The relationship between yeast and pregnancy has not been easy and pregnant women are always seeking ways to get rid of the fungus. When yeast has overgrown, you will get to see white patches in an affected area an this is the infection by yeast. The condition can affect any part of the body but, during pregnancy, the most common place is the birth canal.

Yeast infection in pregnancy is caused by one principle factor which is hormonal imbalance. This means that the system of a woman is not functioning in the usual order. The body is preparing itself to handle pregnancy and all that comes with it. During this time, tests have been done which show that the body of a pregnant woman has a higher concentration of glucose. With this fact, the secretions in the vagina also have higher amounts of sugar content. Yeast is known to love sugar and therefore yeast present in the vagina is fed and it causes an infection. There is nothing a woman can do to prevent this.

There are several signs that will inform you of yeast infection in pregnancy. They include itching which is one of the most irritating symptom. It is difficult to feel like you want to scratch something you cannot reach and pregnant women usually have a hard time trying to do so. The other sign will be soreness which is mainly causes by irritation of the area. Pain while urinating will also be a key feature for vaginal candidiasis. Since pregnant women urinate often, you can see why the whole infection becomes bothersome. Another symptom that you can expect is pain during sexual intercourse. An infection will totally reveal itself on the second trimester.

Another signature symptom of yeast infection in pregnancy is a discharge which will look like cottage cheese. It it very thick and does not have a foul odor. At this point, some mothers start panicking seriously especially if they have never heard of an infection by yeast during pregnancy. The best thing to do when you realize that you have similar condition is to consult a doctor if you are not sure of which the infection is. Some women who have some experience in this issue, will confidently self medicate until they are cured of their condition. When you are green to pregnancy, anything is possible so it is better for you to visit a clinic.

At the hospital, your doctor will rule out other infections like sexually transmitted diseases and bacterial infections. If you have yeast infection in pregnancy, the health provider will provide advise on the cure and caution you against certain drugs especially oral ones.
