Healthy at Home – Get Clean
What do we do when we bring a new baby home from the hospital? We load them up in a car seat, install the baby gates, put in the plug covers, put locks on the cabinets… You can probably think of many more. We bring that baby into a clean home. We want them to be healthy at home from the moment they arrive. Why do we lock the cabinets? To keep them safe from hazardous household chemicals right? While that baby sleep we get out all those chemicals and use and spray them all in that babies environment……..wash the clothes and blankets, spray the high chairs and bouncy chairs, clean the floor they will crawl on, spray and sanitize the air that they breathe. Doesn’t make sense. As a mom I was shocked to realize that there are over 60 scary chemicals in many of the products we use to clean with everyday. Who knew that chlorine found in sanitizing and bleaching agents rank high in the causes of children’s poisoning in the US and may cause reproductive, endocrine and immune disorders. Didn’t we soak our clothes and baby toys in bleach?
Have you ever opened a new shower curtain and caught a whiff of those fumes. Or opened up a new baby toy and noticed the smell that lasts and lasts? Those plastics contain phthalates an industrial chemical commonly used in fragrances that some studies have associated with a range of health problems from asthma to reproductive and developmental problems.
Even baby powder and lotions contains phthalates.
European countries, Canada and the US have begun restrictions on phthalates in children’s toys, teethers, bottles and the like.
I was so happy to find Shaklee and all the Get Clean green products.
Shaklee believes in cleaners that don’t leave behind more toxins than the toxins they’re supposed to clean. I used to think that clean had to have a smell; lemon and pine. But as I have learned, clean doesn’t really have a smell. Those fragrances and fumes really cause more harm than good. Just take a walk down the cleaning isle at your local grocery store. Does it make you want to take a big whiff?
The more natural and healthy way to clean is a little hard to get used to sometimes. But I am glad I learned as I didn’t like that when I cleaned by shower and bathroom my eyes watered or my nose ran or my lungs felt like they were getting burned. As I clean with Basic H2 and Scour off , my eyes don’t water, my skin isn’t red after cleaning the counter and my house is clean.
We feel healthy at home and are used to it now. If I want a little ‘fragrance’ I add a little lemon oil or other essential oil from my cabinet. I know it has to be good as Oprah named Basic H2 and our Get Clean products one of her favorite things. Even the White House went “green’ and uses Shaklee.
If it feels awkward to clean without those ‘smells’, then lean into going green. Change one thing; replace your cleaning products with green when they run out. Shaklee guarantees their products 100% but I think that once to try them, you will like that feeling, too, of living and feeling healthy at home.
