Blue Sky Alpacas Hooded Baby Blanket Pattern and Dyed Organic Cotton Yarn Review
Buying Your Baby’s First Blanket
In the large scheme of things, deciding which baby blanket to buy is low on the scale. Nevertheless, it has to be done. And here are some tips to help you to choose the right one.
Blankets come in so many styles and colors that it can be difficult choosing which one to buy. But you want one that will provide a bit of visual interest and stimulation for the child. Babies don’t come out of the womb able to see as well as an adult. It takes a while for babies to develop their vision. In fact, it’s mostly during the first four months following birth that babies began to recognize and distinguish colors.
If you’re wondering what types of colors you should target, it’s not something to be extremely concerned about. Researchers believe that in the first month, babies like contrasting dark and light patterns – because they are not able to distinguish between similar color shades – such as blue and green. Also, pastel colors are nice. Since the baby’s color vision begins to develop in the first two to four months after birth, pastel colors will give his or her eyes bright colors to interact with. If you are buying the blanket before the child is born and you don’t know the sex of the child, a neutral color is probably best.
Teething blankets, have become very popular over the years. Most are not too expensive at all. These blankets typically have “chew tabs” along the edges that a child can chew on. These blankets are very popular among babies as well as their parents and you shouldn’t consider it unusual if the teething blanket becomes your baby’s favorite blanket. Most quality teething blankets are sturdy enough to place in the washer and dryer many times before they start to show signs of wear. This makes them very easy to care for. In fact, you might consider getting at least two so if one is in the wash, your baby can still use the other one.
If you are looking for eco-friendly baby blanket, you’ll be happy to hear that such stores are becoming more popular. Unlike conventional stores, they try to ensure that blankets, clothing, and toys sold by their establishments don’t contain pesticides, harmful dyes, dangerous metals, and so on. They try to market 100% organic materials – even though they are not always successful. At any rate, it’s nice to know that there are people out there who are just as interested in the welfare of your children as you are.
When buying blankets for your child, be on the lookout for attached accessories or decorative items that could present a choking hazard. In the same vein, be aware of loosely knitted parts of the blanket that your baby can possibly tear off and put in his or her mouth. In the wake of lawsuits, stores and companies are becoming much better at making child-safe apparel and toys. But, in our global economy, many toys and baby apparel are coming from overseas – and sometimes from countries that don’t have our stringent requirements.
