Are Your Children Addicted To Video Games?

<!– @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } A:link { so-language: zxx } –>

These days there is less playing in the park going on with kids and more playing games in front of the TV. Studies have shown that the thrill and excitement of video games is making playing them addictive. Most people do not find this surprising though. If you talk to any preteen and ask them how they spend their time there is a good chance that you will hear about their favourite game. This could be the answer even while the kid is sending a text to a friend.

Why are these kids so addicted to games? Well, it could be because they are so realistic these days. Games are almost a way for kids to escape into another world. Especially in the games that you can play and connect with other players. This takes the gaming experience to a new level. An interactive level.

The main question again is, “Are these games addictive?” Some studies say yes. A lot of children are spending hours upon hours playing their video games. This has a huge effect on what they are lacking with the time that they are spending on these games. Another huge problem is that young kids are often connecting with strangers who are often adults. Many parents don’t know that their kid may be chatting and creating a bond with a 30 year old man. Is this safe? Well, playing a game is not unsafe but the communication with strangers is.

This problem isn’t specifically for kids either. A lot of involved adults often complain about losing their partners to video games. When a husband gets home from work, he may head straight to the X-box or Play station to get his “fix” on. A wife may call her husband to dinner to the response of, “Hold on, one more level to go”. This seems to be increasing in occurrences too.

There is no doubt that we live in a technological world with cell phones, personal devices, internet and any other technological device. That can’t be stopped but the addiction and addictive behaviour of a good portion of today’s youth is a different story. The time spent on these games is taking away from valuable time exercising and socializing with others. Face to face that is. Although there are improvements being made with systems such as the Wii fit, there is still a huge battle to be won against the game.
