How To Handle A Negative Pregnancy Test

A negative pregnancy test  can bring in different kinds of emotions. If you have long-been trying to conceive, negative pregnancy tests can be very disappointing. On the other hand, if you have been in a pregnancy paranoia and you do not have plans of getting pregnant soon, a negative result can be a feeling of relief. Either way, a negative pregnancy test can bring an intolerable dilemma to a woman. Below are some tips on how to handle negative results and false alarms.

First of all, if you want to get rid of false alarms and if you want only the most accurate results, check with your doctor and have a blood pregnancy test administered. Unlike a urine home pregnancy test, blood pregnancy tests can never go wrong. A positive is always a positive while a negative will always be a negative. Or, if you opted for the home test, have it confirmed by your doctor for the second time.

Second, a negative pregnancy test can be very disappointing to couples who have been trying to conceive for a long time. Get yourselves checked up. If your doctor finds a negative diagnosis on your or your husband’s reproductive capability, undergo medication right away. While medication can take for quite some time, it increases your chances of conception. Apart from the physical preparation, keep a positive mind set with you. Do not lose hope and keep trying but lose the pressure. So what if it’s not yet the right time? In fact, the “waiting part” can be a testing ground for couples. This will prove how much you really love each other so spend time and cherish your partner while you await for the perfect timing. They say the biggest surprise comes in your most unexpected moments.

For non-expecting women or couples, a negative pregnancy test can be a sign of relief. Be cautious; however, about false alarms. As mentioned, a home pregnancy test can be inaccurate sometimes so have a second check-up if you’re still in doubt. Paranoia is your biggest nightmare during this stage. For instance, if you’re not in the right age, you worry about how to tell your partner or your parents. Once a negative pregnancy test is confirmed, be careful enough not to engage in unsafe sexual relationships. Educate yourself about the wide range of contraceptives that you and your partner can use. You can also ask your physician for suggestions.

Lastly, negative pregnancy tests do not necessarily mean negative the same way that positive results do not always mean positive. We have already mentioned the accuracy of percentage using a home pregnancy kit vis-a-vis blood tests conducted by a physician. If you are administering the urine test yourself, always read the instructions carefully. A single mistake can blow the test in an instant. Most doctors advise that you take your test by the time that your period is due. Never ever settle when you’re still in doubt. Check with your doctor as soon as you can.

Always handle negative pregnancy tests wisely by having it confirmed by your physician.
