DaVinci Cribs – Insider Tips

Putting together cribs can be an overwhelming experience. All Davinci models include detailed step by step instructions, what you really need to know is how to avoid the pitfalls. Read on to find out all the tips, to make this experience an exciting journey to have together, before the big arrival.

Where do I start?

Check all the parts are included and there are no shipping defects.

Careful inspection upon arrival is vital as scratches and dents can occur in transit. Spend some time to inspect all the parts and hardware while they are still in the box. If parts are missing, it should be repacked and returned immediately. Returns are not accepted on assembled cribs, so double check before you put it together.

Read the instructions.

Assembly instructions are normally tucked away under the springs or frame of the mattress. Reading the instructions from start to finish will only take a matter of minutes and is a great way to get an overall feel of how the crib will be pieced together.

Print out a picture for easy reference.

The illustration in the directions can be a little vague. Some of the pieces aren’t labelled, so set up a picture of the finished product from the net. It is easy to get some of the pieces backward since they are all look the same. This visible reference reduces confusion as to which way each piece should face.

Visible bolt holes dilemma.

Bolt plugs are not included for a good reason, it is a chocking risk. I would recommend a permanent maker in the same finish as your crib. There are some reviews that have recommended buying wooden caps to cover up the visible bolt heads. This would be up to the individual as the choking hazard is of significant concern. A permanent marker in the same colour as your crib can camouflage these holes and blend in with the finish.

What about the scratches?

Scratches are a problem in most wooden cribs. Be careful when assembling as this is the time that scratches and indentations can occur when the wood pieces are handled and manipulated.

Don’t get carried away with the screwdriver.

Avoid over tightening the bolts as the wood can crack and the crib will be extremely hard to take apart when configuring to other bed options. I would recommend using a manual screwdriver over the power drill, as over tightening issues may occur.

Is it a two person job?

If time is not an issue it can be a one person job. An extra pair of hands not only makes the job faster and less stressful, it can be shared as the joy of accomplishing this project together, providing a secure and stable place for your child to sleep.
