What Is A Standard Crib Mattress
Do you know what standard is in regards to a crib mattress? Most people have no idea what standard is and because of that they will just pick out any mattress they see in a store. First of all the reason you never want to pick out just any mattress is because the crib might be bigger or smaller than standard and if that is the case you won’t have the right mattress to keep your child safe inside their crib.
A standard crib mattress is 52 inches long by 28 inches wide with a depth of 6 inches and is normally comprised of innersprings or foam. There is a reason for this odd size in the mattress, the reason it is this exact size is because the standard size for a crib is 60 inches long and 36 inches wide. The standard mattress needs is smaller so that it can fit in the crib perfectly and it also takes into account 4 inches on every side for the siding of the crib.
If you are in a store and you see a mattress you can almost guarantee that it is a standard size mattress. The biggest advantage of buying everything stand size is that you don’t have to worry if the mattress will fit inside the crib. Another thing you won’t have to worry about is any gaps between the mattress and the crib siding because the mattress should be tight enough that you have to press it into the crib using a little bit of your own body weight.
Always remember that when it comes to mattresses you should consider buying a standard mattress to make sure you don’t have gaps in the bedding. There are many different mattresses out there for your child’s crib and it is up to you to determine which one best suits you both.
