Single Christian Washington DC Storm Log: Day 1
The power went out the instant we heard the wind howl and gnash its rain laden jowls at our small Single Christian Washington DC town. The sky is midnight dark, and it is only two o’clock in the afternoon.
We are scared of a window busting in with the rage of the storm, so we are huddling together in the center of the house using furniture as our meager attempt for a brace against the worst. The animals know something is amiss. Charlie is shelf-bound, eyeing the windows wearily, fur fluffed; single Christian woman Bella is a nervous wreck, scrunching her avalanche colored body under the bed that is not built to house a spry yet panicked poodle.
Boredom is a factor at play here and so is hunger. Our only food is the kind for cooking which we have no means to do. No power also means no running water, so Single Christian Washington DC drinks are scarce. The monster made of nature has been having its hissy fit since 5 AM. Sleep has been hard to come by, and the baby has not been helping. The uproar outside our walls has shaken pictures free of their frames and caused the baby’s sleepy-time mobile to come crashing down into the crib. Held to my bosom, she has quieted for the moment. The hunger we all feel will soon creep into her ten month old belly, and hell will worsen as we try to wait out this inescapable threat that has befallen us.
As I chronicle our endeavor at this very second, the angry single Christian women earth screeches a shriek that is rattling the whole house all the way into my bones! A splintering shatter in the distance makes its way into our ears– a window has broken. Branches and debris are billowing in with the screaming wind. The twins are yowling in fear now, but mom will calm them. With hope and meditation, we will come out of this ordeal alive and with minimal damages. A house is fixable; a house is material. The creatures within it are the real valuables.
The Single Christian Washington DC light above me flickers! Perchance the storm has lifted, or at least power has been restored? Sigh. The soft buzz and light smoky odor now being emitted from the light tells me no, that it was just a surge that have inevitably burnt the bulb out. Peeking now through the sliver of window that is not blocked, I can see that we have a long road ahead before we can heave a true sigh of relief.
