Designer Baby Bags: Who owns these trendy diaper bags and what should I look for?
A new baby means more baby accessories in your life: diapers, bottles, pacifiers and toys. Lots of young moms choose to carry a separate purse for themselves and a diaper bag for their baby, but designer baby bags offer both style and function. So much so, that you can easily replace your purse with a chic baby bag and look great whilst having everything you need to provide your baby with love and care. They’ve become a huge hit with celebrities like:

Yes there are even designer diaper bags for men! Designers like Marc Jacobs, Gucci and Tommy Hilfiger all produce diaper bags, but sadly their beautiful work does not come cheap! If you are looking for discounted designer piece then eBay should be your first stop once you have found a style and pattern that you like. If you are lucky, you’ll be able to find a good-condition preowned bag or an unwanted gift that someone is selling at a steep discount. If eBay doesn’t yield anything interesting, try Google Shopping or Amazon. Shopping online allows you to compare sellers and quickly find the bag that you want at a reasonable price.
Here is a basic list of the types of designer baby bags currently available on the market from brands like Vera Bradley, Oi Oi, Ju Ju Be and the gorgeous Petunia Pickle Bottom. The smaller bags come first and the list ranges through the largest bags.
- Clutch bags are the smallest of all diaper bags and are so-called because they are small enough for you to ‘clutch’ them in one hand. They generally have a medium-length shoulder strap and a foldover top. These bags are lightweight and compact, with enough volume only for the basic essentials.
- A tote bag is slightly larger than the clutch bag and doesn’t offer a great deal of practical space. They have a curved bottom and the ends of the bag rise up into the handle or strap, which is short, so the bag sits very high if you wear it on the shoulder. Cute, but not very practical.
- Handbag-style baby bags have been sported by the likes of Heidi Klum and Angelina Jolie. They offer a sizeable, practical volume with space divided into a number of smaller pockets and compartments to help things stay organised.
- Messenger baby bags are larger than a handbag and have a longer shoulder strap, allowing them to sit around hip height. They are quite square but generally quite flat so they are in fact quite a practical bag. By default, they have plenty of pockets and space is easy to make use of.
- Backpacks are perhaps the least fashionable choice of all but easily the most practical bag. They range in size and shape but a mid-size backpack will have plenty of pockets to secure and separate your baby accessories, keeping everything easily accessed. The big benefit to a backpack is that they are very comfortable and both your hands are kept free.
